A commissioner is a judicial officer who is hired by a vote of the Superior Court judges to preside in a courtroom and decide cases.  Much like a judge, commissioners wear the same black robe and go through the same training as judges. Commissioners often handle the busiest courtrooms and are utilized to assist with the heavy workload of the courts.
